Some manufacturers advertise battery capacity by adding up the capacities of each individual cell inside the battery pack. For example, if a pack contains 3 cells of 3000 mAh, they may claim 9000 mAh. However, this is technically incorrect for devices like portable espresso machines. In order to power the pump and heating system, the cells are connected in series (3S configuration), which increases voltage but does not increase the capacity. In a series configuration, the total usable capacity remains that of a single cell — in this case, 3000 mAh. Importantly, this does not affect performance. Our 3000 mAh (3S) pack delivers exactly the same total energy and runtime as what some others might advertise as “9000 mAh” — because the total energy is a combination of both voltage and capacity.
